Fast Facts of the Calumet-Sag Trail


  1. The Calumet-Sag Trail can be open by 2012 with public & private partnerships between towns, business, health care, and advocacy groups working towards a Triple Bottom Line.

  2. The Trail is an old idea whose time has come - area planning maps from the 1970s promoted a multi-use path along the waterway

  3. 80% of the land required for the Calumet-Sag Trail is set aside by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District for trail use

  4. More than 185,000 Southland residents live within a mile of the trail

  5. At 26 miles long, the Calumet-Sag Trail is as long as the Old Plank Road Trail - but provides trail access to twice as many communities

  6. The Calumet-Sag Trail will take $20 million to complete - the cost of just one expressway interchange in a single community

  7. The Calumet-Sag Trail connects five regional multi-use trails, creating a trail system that stretches more than 150 miles

  8. If the Calumet-Sag Trail were a health club, it would be a 4+ million square foot recreational and fitness facility that serves everyone and costs nothing join
